October is National Bully Prevention Month
"No one would help me"
One day I was at recess just playing tag. It was a normal day until this kid pushed me over. Then I kept ending up on the ground because he kept tripping me. I didn't know how to stop him, so he kept doing it. Two of my friends were there, but they wanted to get away from him. He tripped me each time we played tag from September 28. No one would help me. Finally I told me teacher.
The next week he beat me up at recess and told me not to tell on him again. I went home with a black eye and lied to my mom and told her I got hit with a football. The boy kept bullying me until October because we lived really close to each other. Finally I told my dad. He talked to this kid's parents, and the kid finally stopped bullying me.
Think about it... What could Jon have done to get more help sooner? What could his friends have done to help?
As a parent this breaks our hearts.
For the month of October we will be sharing non-violent ways to help our students address all types of bullying: physical, mental, emotional and verbal in our Taekwondo classes. These short messages will help address bullying without scaring our younger students while our older students will see the benefits as well.
Please contact your PTA if you would like Master Yuhasz to volunteer in your school to help with the National Bully Prevention Month.
Full Split Club Pizza Party - Friday, October 15, 2021
We are so happy to announce that after working throughout the summer we have over ten students who can now perform full splits! All students who can now do a full split are invited to VENEZIA Pizza & Pasta in Clifton park for a PIZZA PARTY on Friday, October 15, 2021 at 5:30pm. Students who are attending need to sign-up at the front desk. We look forward to celebrating together!
We are moving to paperless memberships
We are excited to announce that we will be starting to use paperless memberships in the next few weeks. As a professional Taekwondo school we realize that successful businesses across the world are using he newest paperless technology and we are in the process of setting up the same systems.
In addition we have upgraded our website to include an online registration for our mini trial membership. Now new families can register for our $40 mini course with just a few buttons in the comfort of their own home.
Adirondack Taekwondo College Scholarship Fund
Over the past 20 years we have seen our students grow into Black Belts and continue their Taekwondo journey's all the way to Taekwondo Masters. From young children, our students have embraced the tenets of Taekwondo and have pursued their college dreams and now are respected professionals in their chosen fields.
This past summer we seen five of our Black Belts head off to college. Some if them looked for a Taekwondo College Scholarship to no avail. This month we are introducing the Adirondack Taekwondo College Scholarship Fund.
Taekwondo Scholarship Fund aims to encourage students who have demonstrated a
long-term commitment to the tenets of Taekwondo, both inside and outside of the
Taekwondo School (dojang), to continue pursuing their long-term goals.
This scholarship will be granted to well-rounded
and high achieving Taekwondo students who demonstrate outstanding Taekwondo
values in all aspects of their life. Black Belt applicants will be evaluated
based on their positive contributions to the Taekwondo community, as well as
their overall commitment to the five tenets of Taekwondo.
We cannot do this alone and need your help.
As we move into our scholarship we are looking for five (5) individuals to help make the selection of our Scholarship Applicants. Master Yuhasz will not be included in this process. If you would like to be a member of our selection committee and help over see the selection please see Master Yuhasz.
We are looking into the future and would like to set up a 501c for the Adirondack Taekwondo College Scholarship Fund. If you have some experience in this we would love to hear from you as we move forward.
Lastly our initial Scholarship is $500 for one individual. We are looking for additional opportunities to help more of our Black Belts. Therefore we will be hosting one event a year where we will raise additional funds for the scholarship. This year we have decided to host an auction to benefit the scholarship fund. If you have any experience in auctions and would like to help, please see Master Yuhasz.
